About Me

Dr. Aziza C. Jones, an Assistant Professor of Marketing at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW), is a dedicated scholar whose research, teaching, and service engagements jointly advance the United Nations' mission of addressing global inequality (for more information on the United Nations, click here).

Academic. Dr. Jones' research program, "Marketing Toward Equity", shows how better understanding equity-related constructs can benefit businesses. Her work appears in prominent outlets such as the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences and the Journal of Consumer Psychology, demonstrating her scholarly rigor and commitment to addressing critical social issues. Her research agenda shows that equity insights are critical for societal progress, especially from the perspective of individual brands that wish to stay competitive in today's diversifying markets.

Course. Dr. Jones also advances this mission through her teaching. She designed and leads UW's flagship Brand Management course where she incorporates real-world branding projects that resonate with her students. For example, after noticing growing anxiety among her students of all backgrounds amid growing societal instability, she designed her class to teach Brand Management in a way that allowed her students to channel their societal concerns constructively into the classroom. She incorporates cases that highlight how brands like NASCAR are pivoting their strategies to better connect with socially-conscious consumers. Her semester-long project culminates in students developing nonpartisan voting campaigns that identify with diverse demographics and are tailored to specific social-impact brands. In doing so, she teaches the next generation how they can use brand management skills to both benefit businesses and contribute to a more effective society.

Justice. Beyond her academic and teaching contributions, Dr. Jones is a passionate social justice advocate. She collaborates with local organizations such as the League of Women Voters and Porchlight Homeless Shelter to uplift marginalized communities. Aziza is also currently the Academic Non-Profit Government Director of the Association of Consumer Research, and in this role, connects civic representatives with academic audiences to advance society.

Dr. Jones' dedication and excellence in her field have garnered significant recognition, including being named a 2024 Poets&Quants Top 50 Best Undergraduate Professor. Her prior accolades also include the 2020 Eli Jones Promising Young Scholar Award and the 2023 Mabel W. Chipman Outstanding Junior Faculty Teaching Award. Outside of her professional life, Aziza enjoys snowboarding, biking, writing sessions with Madison's Rudy the Pig, and navigating life's storms–both literal and metaphorical–with her favorite environmental scientist, Donnie (who gently reminds her that her passion for online shopping might be slightly at odds with her social impact goals).
